Crowded Orion building during anniversary of WUR

The hundredth anniversary of Wageningen University & Research drew more than thousand visitors. Chemist Lee Cronin from University of Glasgow was keynote speaker during the official meeting on 9 March.

Rector Magnificus Arthur Mol was the opening speaker and introduced chemist Lee Cronin, a professor at the University of Glasgow. Cronin told the audience about laboratory research into the origins of life. His inspirational presentation resulted in animated discussions among visitors at the end of the meeting.

After the presentations of three talented young scientists of WUR, there was a musical intermezzo followed by jazz trio Levanter. The music provided a moment of reflection and was received with great applause.

Arthur Mol again took the stage and gave a light-hearted spin on the appointments of four new honorary doctors. Still fascinated by the spectacle, Carola Schouten entered the stage. The Dutch Prime Minister looked ahead to the future and asked whether we should want everything that is scientifically possible. The answer of Louise Fresco closed the official meeting: 'Your questions resonate with our ambitions'.
